The\u00a0first holiday window displays go back to 1870s, when Macy\u2019s created one of those in New York. Since then, festive displays have become a\u00a0seasonal tradition, but also very powerful marketing tool. Every year the\u00a0biggest shopping malls try to impress the\u00a0passersby with unique themes and actions, and\u00a0of course – \u201cfirst come first served\u201d.<\/p>\n Selfridges, as the first department store in the world, decided to present its Christmas windows at Oxford Street in London at the\u00a0beginning of November. Santa is the\u00a0star of this year\u2019s campaign and the\u00a0theme \u201cShine on\u201d invites shoppers to celebrate the\u00a0festive season.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSanta’s getting up to all sorts of magical mischief in our world-famous windows this Christmas. Follow his wild and wonderful Alpine adventures and take a\u00a0behind-the-scenes glimpse with our chief window designer, Morag Hickmott\u201d<\/i>, we read at Selfridges site. <\/p>\n Every detail of the Christmas display you see is precisely designed. They sprinkled loose iridescent glitter on top of the artificial white snow to make it sparkle. The mountain-scape forms at the\u00a0back of each window has been individually hand-painted. Every Santa has a\u00a0handmade sequin suit – each one takes 193 hours to make. And\u00a0that gold parachute that you see – it\u2019s a\u00a0real inflatable parachute with a\u00a0fan pumping air into it, to make it fly.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n All in all, what we find the\u00a0best in the Christmas displays is that all the products you see in the\u00a0windows are available to buy at\u00a0Selfridges. If you have a\u00a0chance to visit London till the\u00a0end of December, don\u2019t miss it. We did see it last year. It\u00a0was really spectacular.
