Summer is\u00a0over, unfortunately. Time to pack away the\u00a0light dresses, shorts, bikinis and\u00a0straw hats… (Not\u00a0so bad, if\u00a0we replace them with cosy, oversize sweaters?) You\u00a0might also need a\u00a0case for our favourite sunnies, to\u00a0keep them safe for next year. Today we\u00a0are\u00a0making a\u00a0do-it-yourself sunglasses case. It’s simple and\u00a0you can choose the\u00a0pattern that reminds you of summer vacations. Pastels? Etno? Flowery? The\u00a0case can be\u00a0used for reading glasses as\u00a0well. See the instructions below.<\/p>\n

What you will need:<\/p>\n

– 2 pieces of fabric measuring 22cm x 12cm
– 2 pieces of fabric measuring 20cm x 12cm
– pins\u00a0
– needle and thread
–\u00a0press stud
– scissors
– pen
– ruler
– sewing machine<\/p>\n

\u00a0The first and\u00a0the\u00a0most difficult part is\u00a0to choose the\u00a0fabrics you\u00a0will use. Colours, patterns and\u00a0type of\u00a0textiles. Tip: inelastic materials will hold the\u00a0shape better.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cut two pieces of each material. The outer fabric is bigger (22cm) than the lining (20cm).<\/p>\n

Take two pieces of lining fabric and\u00a0pin the\u00a0right sides together along one of the\u00a0short sides. Sew the\u00a0piece together along this edge. Repeat this for the\u00a0outer pieces as\u00a0well.<\/p>\n

Sew the\u00a0outer and\u00a0lining pieces together, along the\u00a0short side, as\u00a0shown in\u00a0the\u00a0picture.<\/p>\n

Pin the\u00a0sides, to\u00a0make it easier to sew.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"image\"<\/p>\n

Now you have to sew all the\u00a0way around these pieces on the\u00a0machine. Important! It’s essential to\u00a0leave a\u00a0little gap at\u00a0the\u00a0end of lining pieces, so that you\u00a0will be\u00a0able to turn the\u00a0case right way out later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Take the\u00a0scissors and\u00a0cut\u00a0off the\u00a0four corners.<\/p>\n

Watch out for the\u00a0stitching. You\u00a0can fold and\u00a0iron the\u00a0edges, it’s useful later, when you\u00a0reverse the\u00a0case.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Remember the\u00a0little gap we\u00a0left? Now, using the\u00a0scissors to pull, turn the\u00a0case the\u00a0right way round. Your outer fabric should be on top now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Once you have done that, hand sew the\u00a0gap. You\u00a0can also secure the\u00a0begining and\u00a0end of the\u00a0case with a\u00a0few \u2018on-the-spot\u2019 stitches.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nearly done.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Push the\u00a0lining fabric to the\u00a0inside of the\u00a0case.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last step. Sew on the\u00a0press stud inside the\u00a0case. Use a\u00a0double thread and\u00a0do a\u00a0few stitches to be sure its’s attached well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ok. It wasn’t the last step. Now\u00a0it’s time to put your sunglasses or glasses inside! Wasn’t that difficult, was it? Be\u00a0inspired by Reserved and\u00a0make your own one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
