Dozens of spectacular shows, trade fairs, showrooms, new\u00a0boutiques openings, it\u2019s just a\u00a0little bit of\u00a0Berlin Fashion Week. We\u00a0were exploring all\u00a0corners of the\u00a0city, looking for unique boutiques and\u00a0places where Berliners do their shopping. We\u00a0visited artsy Kreuzberg, young designers district Mitte, Mauerpark flea market and luxury Kurf\u00fcrstendamm boulevard. We\u00a0were at M\u00fcnzstrasse, Alexanderplatz and\u00a0Platz der Luftbr\u00fccke, where the\u00a0clothing fair Bread & Butter took place.\u00a0If\u00a0you can sit somewhere and drinking lemonade, by chance, meet a\u00a0famous hat designer, it’s Berlin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During\u00a0Mercedes-Benz\u00a0<\/i>Fashion Week, every place in the\u00a0city is\u00a0dedicated to\u00a0fashion. Bars and\u00a0restaurants show live broadcasting from catwalks, cinemas organize\u00a0Berlin Fashion\u00a0<\/i>Film\u00a0<\/i>Festival\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0streets are\u00a0full of\u00a0face-hunters. Newspapers daily write about upcoming events and\u00a0guests visiting German capital, for\u00a0example Ivan Rodic, famous Scandinavian street fashion photographer. Nevertheless, Berlin is\u00a0about fashion throughout the\u00a0year. Next\u00a0to cultural events and entertainment, visitors are attracted by\u00a0shopping. We\u00a0decided to check what distinguish German boutiques from those we’ve known so\u00a0far.<\/p>\n

What can be\u00a0seen in Berlin immediately is multiplicity. And diversity. Therefore, it’s better to\u00a0think about what you’re looking for, since the\u00a0roads of bargain hunter and\u00a0traditional shopaholic\u00a0in\u00a0Berlin will not cross. Let’s\u00a0start with Mitte and\u00a0design enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Kastanienallee artery leading from Mitte to Prenzlauer Berg is\u00a0lined with small, independent shops, where you’ll discover local design, home d\u00e9cor and\u00a0unique souvenirs. Numerous fashion labels also cluster around Hackescher Markt with their ateliers.<\/p>\n

Here we found a boutique of Rike Feurstein, quite eccentric headgear designer, winner of the\u00a0prestigious German Red Dot Design Award<\/i>. <\/p>\n

Perky visors, toques, streamlined caps and\u00a0fedoras, all hand-made, reflect Feurstein’s keen eye for flattering styles and\u00a0shapes. The\u00a0atelier is\u00a0guarded by Rike herself and her dogs.<\/p>\n

Right next to, it’s store has Whiteout&Glare, a\u00a0Berlin eyewear company known from original ideas. Latest collection was\u00a0inspired by\u00a0reefs, supporting the movement for ocean’s natural resources. Beautiful projects.<\/p>\n

Also\u00a0here, at\u00a0Max-Beer-Strasse\u00a03, we\u00a0visited a\u00a0very special shop. Smack in the\u00a0middle of the\u00a0building, there\u2019s a\u00a0street going along! You\u00a0can even see sidewalks. Used\u00a0to\u00a0be a\u00a0dye factory, now works as FREITAG store, German Swiss bag brand. FREITAG sells nothing but bags made from recycled trucks, say the\u00a0owners. They\u00a0buy used truck tarps and\u00a0seatbelts, and\u00a0give them a\u00a0new life. No two bags are the\u00a0same. The Weinmeisterstrasse area is really worth visiting. For\u00a0sure something will surprise you. We went there to Bite Club Mitte <\/i>food & fashion fair, that takes place regularly on\u00a0Saturdays. <\/p>\n

Great place to\u00a0meet local designers and fashion enthusiasts. That’s\u00a0how we met Marco. He\u00a0makes hand-made souvenirs from Berlin – bags and\u00a0backpacks with his own design. <\/p>\n

Bite Club Mitte <\/i>takes place in a\u00a0big hall built from containers, with an\u00a0open-air space and a back garden. It’s also a food market, so you will find food trucks of all kind. And believe us, it’s yummy. <\/p>\n

\u00a0For\u00a0luxury shoppers we\u00a0highly recommend Kurf\u00fcrstendamm. Walking towards Berlin ZOO, you\u00a0will pass\u00a0by elegant boutiques of Burberry, Zegna, Prada, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Porsche Design. At\u00a0the\u00a0end of the\u00a0boulevard there is KaDeWe department store, the\u00a0biggest shopping center in\u00a0Europe. Now your are\u00a0around one of Berlin’s major luxury shopping strips.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0the\u00a0other site of the\u00a0street there is\u00a0a\u00a0new concept mall Bikini Berlin. The\u00a0recently opened shopping center is\u00a0really worth a\u00a0visit as you are in\u00a0Berlin, for several reasons. <\/p>\n

Firstly, this place will always look different when you arrive. The\u00a0main idea of Bikini Berlin is to promote small businesses, startups and foreign brands. It\u00a0gives them “their five minutes”, which means from 3-12 months opportunity to rent a\u00a0space there. It keeps the\u00a0place changing constantly. What’s\u00a0more, Bikini Berlin runs an\u00a0amazing 25hours Hotel, with stunning interior design and a\u00a0bakery, where you can go for a coffee and pretzel. The\u00a0view from it’s roof terrace is\u00a0quite unusual for a\u00a0shopping center – you\u00a0can watch birds, monkeys and flamingos from the neighbouring ZOO. <\/p>\n

There is\u00a0also a\u00a0multitasking path, to\u00a0combine Berlin sightseeing with\u00a0premium shopping. Along Friedrichstrasse, luxury apartment stores like Galleries Lafayette and\u00a0Quartier\u00a0206 are on your way to\u00a0see the\u00a0city highlights: Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial, Gendarmenmarkt, Checkpoint Charlie. If you reach Alexanderplatz, with the TV Tower and City Hall, you’re few steps away from shopaholics paradise. There you\u00a0will find everything. A\u00a0five-storeys shopping gallery, chain stores, private boutiques, second-hands and\u00a0probably all the\u00a0tourists who came to\u00a0Berlin for shopping.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0last shopping stop has to\u00a0be at\u00a0Flohm\u00e4rkte<\/i>, a\u00a0flea market. Every\u00a0Sunday\u00a0bargain hunters head to Mauerpark. If you’re lucky, you\u00a0can buy shoes from Marc Jacobs for 25\u00a0euros or original retro glasses from the\u00a060s. Many\u00a0young designers have their stalls here\u00a0too. Marco, the\u00a0Italian we\u00a0met at\u00a0Bite Club Mitte<\/i> market also comes here with his #Berlin bags and\u00a0packpacks. Mauerpark is a great opportunity to meet interesting people, listen to live music and taste famous Currywurst<\/i>. It’s like a\u00a0great picnic with surprises. <\/p>\n

Finally, if you’re looking for old\u00a0school creations and second-hand shops, we recommend Mitte district again. Check XVIII (Steinstrasse 17), Made In Berlin (Neue Sch\u00f6nhauser 19), Alex Vintage (Rosa-Luxemburg Strasse 17), Das neue Schwarz (Mulackstrasse 37) and\u00a0Sing Blackbird on\u00a0Kreuzk\u00f6lln (Sanderstra\u00dfe 11), where once\u00a0a\u00a0month there is\u00a0a\u00a0market as well. <\/p>\n
