A few tiny baubles and bobby pins sold as “Beard Baubles” can not save the world, but can make a change. This quirky-cool idea is not just a festive decoration for bearded men. The project goes much beyond just fun.
The Beard Baubles were first created last December at the advertising agency Grey London, by designers Mike Kennedy and Pauline Ashford. At first, it seems to be a funky way to decorate your man for Christmas (especially at the time of super popular big-beard-looks) but the main reason is more serious.
The project aims to raise the awareness of dangerous excessive sun exposure that can cause skin cancer. In an amusing way it’s supposed to encourage men to grow their beards. The agency sells a festive beard decoration to raise the money to donate the melanoma studies (the profit from each sale of Beard Baubles goes toward skin cancer research). As the sale is limited, they also encourage people to make their own DIY Beard Baubles and just support the project.
“We only make a limited amount each year but will be looking into mass production for the future. It’s for this reason that we’ve created a video tutorial on how to make your own version, for personal use only. All we ask is that you make a donation after making your own”, we read at the official page.
