Just 7 months and we are back to his story (Raf Simons as new CKlein?) Simons’ vision of Calvin Klein is starting to take shape with a brand new logo and his first collection “American Classics."
The Belgian designer joined Calvin Klein in August last year as a creative director. With Simons the big time of transformation has started.
The first advertising campaign for Calvin Klein’s jeans and underwear lines is slightly different from the sex-and-celebrities-infused marketing we were used to see. “American Classics” showcase Calvin Klein’s signature items, denim jeans, a cotton tank and white men’s briefs, alongside the contemporary works of famous American artists Andy Warhol, Sterling Ruby, Richard Prince and Dan Flavin.
"It’s a celebration of Calvin Klein’s iconic underwear and jeans; acknowledging their status as Pop and showing them in the world of art,” said Raf Simons.
The campaign is a testament to how Calvin Klein’s classic garments helped build the foundation of American fashion, as much as Warhol’s artistic renderings of Marilyn Monroe, Brillo pads and Campbell’s soup cans define a part of the American art world. We will definitely keep our eyes open to Simons’ next steps. Can’t waif for the next collection.
