The British Fashion Council has just announced that the Outstanding Achievement Award in Fashion at The Fashion Awards 2016 will go to Ralph Lauren. The designer will be honoured for his invaluable contribution to the fashion industry at the Royal Albert Hall in London this December.

Over the past 50 years, Ralph Lauren and his iconic brand have shaped and define the American fashion identity in a unique way. Through his commitment to design, innovation, business and philanthropy, Ralph Lauren has established himself as a pillar of the global fashion community.

Ralph Lauren introduced his tie and menswear company in 1967, five years later presenting a full line of Polo by Ralph Lauren at New York Fashion Week. The same year he launched first womenswear line. As soon as that, The Ralph Lauren brand has started to shape the contemporary image of Americans, encompassing Lauren’s realisation of glamour lifestyle, sophistication and integrity. The brand’s logo is widely regarded as one of the most memorable and widely recognised logos in the fashion industry. It has traditionally symbolised a polo player on a horse – a sport played by the royal family and the wealthy people. The Ralph Lauren is a perfect embodiment of rich, proud American look and tradition.

As well as his creative brilliance and skill as a businessman, Lauren is a wonderfully generous philanthropist. The endless capacity for generosity is part of what makes Lauren such a beloved and respected figure in the fashion community, and is one of reasons he is to be honoured this year at the Fashion Awards.

Previous winners of the Outstanding Achievement Award include Karl Lagerfeld in 2015, Anna Wintour OBE in 2014, Terry and Tricia Jones in 2013 and Manolo Blahnik CBE in 2012. About the last year ceremony you can also read on our blog (The winners are…).
