3 Berlin designers to know

Fashion mecca – from elegant couture to edgy, alternative apparel, Berlin has a lot to offer. Since its recent fashion-renaissance, German capital became a major place to be for buyers and sellers. Berlin designers’re drawing big attention and that’s why today we want to introduce you some of them: say “hi!” to Kaviar Gauche, Esther Perbandt and Michael Sontag.

1. Kaviar Gauche. Couture and casual

The label was founded in 2004 by two classmates from Esmod, Alexandra Fischer-Roehler and Johanna Kühl. As soon as that, it earned hordes of fans with their cocktail dresses and sultry gowns, being regularly featured in Vogue, Elle and Interview magazines.

Designers enjoy a Berlin-powered hype, that influences their work a lot. “Luxury with a hint of rebellion and laissez-faire” – that’s how Kühl describes their style. The hand-made pieces are very elegant, with couture detailing, quality fabrics, dynamic cuts and textures. And very feminine. Transparency and volumes bring a sense of cool modern glamour.

2. Esther Perbrandt. Rebelliousness Avant-garde

Black, black and a bit more black. Together with androgyny, aggressive cuts and jagged silhouettes are trademarks of Easter Perbrand, born-and-rised Berliner. Her boutique located in Berlin-Mitte presents the latest unisex collections, bags and accessories. You can pop up there, choose your dream garment and Esther herself will take your measures and produce a sample. She consults any individual convenience, concerning the choice of fabric.

This year, to celebrate 10 years of label, Esther organised one of the biggest off-sight shows of the season, open for public. Truly remarkable designer. She’s the perfect testimonial for her designs.

3. Michael Sontag. Feminine Flow

Young designer Michael Sontag founded his label only in 2009 and made his debut at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this year.

Sontag sees his work as an entity. No seasons, no trends and no consumer ages. That approach is evident in the clarity of his designs. He uses masterful draping techniques, creating very feminine looks for elegant and subtle women.
